“May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.”

"This report is maybe 12-years-old. Parliament buried it, and it stayed buried till River dug it up. This is what they feared she knew. And they were right to fear because there's a whole universe of folk who are gonna know it, too. They're gonna see it. Somebody has to speak for these people. You all got on this boat for different reasons, but you all come to the same place. So now I'm asking more of you than I have before. Maybe all. Sure as I know anything I know this, they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, 10, they'll swing back to the belief that they can make people . . . better. And I do not hold to that. So no more running. I aim to misbehave." ~ Captain Malcom Reynolds

Random musing

One of the staples of fantasy/pulp horror etc is the virgin sacrifice. Whether an innocent tied to an altar for some elder thing, some maiden on a post waiting to be dragon food, or the ever-popular volcano god appeasement, the trope has remained.

Am I the only one who ever reads or watches this stuff & thinks "You know, 20 minutes in the hayloft with the male lead would solve the whole issue here for the heroine..."?

This is why the Overlord's List requires checking that the virgin sacrifice - or any other type of sacrifice - still meets the requirements before offering it. Preferably, say, every five minutes the day of.

Of course, someone smart trying for Evil Overlord will have a back-up 'just in case' the original sacrifice doesn't meet the requirements by the time it's time to make the offering. And will have eunuchs guarding the sacrificial maiden.

When I become an evil overlord, I will raid convents. Nothing says that the virgin has to be young, worldly, etc. And I will have half a dozen of the nuns waiting, just in case something happens to the first five. Because I'm an evil overlord who doesn't leave the key plot points to chance.

Nice to see I'm not the only one who has read and follows the Evil Overlord checklists!
