“May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.”

"This report is maybe 12-years-old. Parliament buried it, and it stayed buried till River dug it up. This is what they feared she knew. And they were right to fear because there's a whole universe of folk who are gonna know it, too. They're gonna see it. Somebody has to speak for these people. You all got on this boat for different reasons, but you all come to the same place. So now I'm asking more of you than I have before. Maybe all. Sure as I know anything I know this, they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, 10, they'll swing back to the belief that they can make people . . . better. And I do not hold to that. So no more running. I aim to misbehave." ~ Captain Malcom Reynolds

Labrat said it for me

Can we discuss real issues now grownups?

Therapy...

The morning started out with a number of coworkers frustrating me to the "I really shouldn't be around people" point; seeing as I was spending the rest of the day teaching at the range I changed a few of my plans. Shot the two qualification courses I needed myself, and then headed over to the rifle side with my personal M4 and spent the lunch hour doing zombie shots on a 10" steel plate at 200 yards. Not only was it nice to confirm what the rifle can do, it was very therapeutic to just let my mind go for a while & focus on something besides stupidity. Nice as well when I'm not the one who has to buy the ammo.

Moments from another night...

- Heavy rain keeps people in. Dry weather keeps cops happy. Light, steady rain is the worst - the idiots are out, and we have to get soaked playing games with them...

- Yes, I really am going to give you a ticket for running the red light. I don't care that you're trying to get to the store before it closes - you aren't more special than anyone else.

- Ah, the joys of warmer weather - when having a police dog means regular baths or your vehicle stinks more than normal. Oh, guess I better wash the dog as well...

- Do you really expect us to believe that you aren't using when you have your son's prescription bottle half-used after one day, empty capsules, and are capable of self-levitation you're so high? Really?

- I had the most refreshing drunk in history - instead of the constant litany of "You ruined my life, you can't do this, just let me go," that we so often hear, this one was "I know I messed up, do what you have to do, I was an idiot." Honesty and self-realization are such a nice change.

Have a couple of bomb stories to post as well, just have to get to writing them.

Experiment

- Following the recent computer upgrade & reload, I'm seeing how well things work with running solely Open Office as opposed to the Microsoft version. I don't need Outlook for the Calendars or such, as I use the Google so as to sync with the phone, email is done on the cloud etc. Basically my big needs are word processing and being able to at least read Excel documents and such - which so far works fine. Given past experience I think the only issue may be some occasional formatting burps between the two, but we shall see. Hopefully it works though & saves me that bit of money.

- In other fun my wife is attempting to answer my son's questions about Easter weekend in the other room, and becoming frustrated because he continues to switch it over to the great Zombie Jesus. Yes, our children are warped already...

Movie Night

Finally got a copy of the HPLHS movie adaptation of The Call of Cthulhu.

Very nicely done - though a silent movie does make multitasking a bit harder than normal! But highly recommended & I look forward to getting more of their work down the road.

Officially decrepit

Got the handicapped parking permit in the mail today - don't need it all the time, but there are days it will be a necessity...

I've already practiced shaking my cane and yelling "You kids get outta my yard!" so I'm fully prepared.

Of course, I also keep telling my wife I need to use it in the police truck just once... if only for the picture.

Back in the World

Yes, I've been out in the Black for a while... and neglected even sending a wave back to say anything. Try to fix that now.

Spent a good chunk of time off & with the family - much needed on all of our parts, and a nice break from the work drama. But, it's back to earning regular money now, so perhaps the stories shall resume.

Also did a computer rebuild/upgrade - the new desktop is quite shiny!

Other than that it's time for the annual yardwork & cleaning about the abode in order to get all the trash on the curb for pickup. Always fun, and now that spring may finally be arriving, it was a nice day for it.

Oh - and for a nameless blog friend down south - as I asked my wife, what is it with you RVA girls and Spec Ops guys? Something the school taught you? ;)
