“May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.”

"This report is maybe 12-years-old. Parliament buried it, and it stayed buried till River dug it up. This is what they feared she knew. And they were right to fear because there's a whole universe of folk who are gonna know it, too. They're gonna see it. Somebody has to speak for these people. You all got on this boat for different reasons, but you all come to the same place. So now I'm asking more of you than I have before. Maybe all. Sure as I know anything I know this, they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, 10, they'll swing back to the belief that they can make people . . . better. And I do not hold to that. So no more running. I aim to misbehave." ~ Captain Malcom Reynolds

Milestones

Today I brought out my shiny new "Malvin and Cobbes" t-shirt to wear for the first time, which brought the observation from Jacob of "I like your shirt daddy, who are those guys?"

So, after first pointing out the Firefly reference to him, I then proceeded to explain Calvin and Hobbes - and provide him with his first reading of one of the books.

On the one hand, Daddy is proud of his boy - another great time ahead of him learning the joys of Watterson's work.

On the other, I am in dread of the character similarities he will see, and the ideas he may garner...

Heh heh heh...yeah. Still, you've got to expose your kids to the classics. It builds character.

I remember a comment after Calvin broke his dads binoculars and at the end of the series the dad commented " Yeah in 10 years it will be one of my cars"...I said the same thing several times about my 8 year old. There are a lot of similarities...almost frightening

"Malvin and Cobbes"

That is some interesting sideways thinking!

Oh, I need one of those!

Couple of years back I mentioned C & H to a friend of mine and she asked "What's that?" She was a SECOND GRADE TEACHER and had never heard of them! So I loaned her a book.

Both my kids flat loved that strip, still do. Though I think son occasionally has some thoughts for the squad that probably derive from it.
