“May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.”

"This report is maybe 12-years-old. Parliament buried it, and it stayed buried till River dug it up. This is what they feared she knew. And they were right to fear because there's a whole universe of folk who are gonna know it, too. They're gonna see it. Somebody has to speak for these people. You all got on this boat for different reasons, but you all come to the same place. So now I'm asking more of you than I have before. Maybe all. Sure as I know anything I know this, they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, 10, they'll swing back to the belief that they can make people . . . better. And I do not hold to that. So no more running. I aim to misbehave." ~ Captain Malcom Reynolds

Things Sean Should Know By Now...

- Went to Sears for a set of new tires for the Jeep yesterday; given the others were well past due & a bit of a sale was on. The answer to "How long will this take?" was "Oh, just about an hour." Yeah... 3 hours later I finally got out of there. And not a wifi site to be found around there.

- Those following the news may have noticed we got a spot of snow on this side of the country today. This is relevant because I stopped at the grocery store for our biweekly run yesterday on the way home from said tire trip. Where everyone and their dog was shopping because ZOMG!!!!!!! it's the end of the world and groceries shall never arrive again! Seriously - there were FIVE loaves of bread left on the shelf, that's it. Fortunately the things we needed were in good supply, but that was another hour of frustration.

- Then came driving home. I believe that I've mentioned before that residents of this commonwealth completely lose the ability to operate a motor vehicle when water falls from the sky; should that water be in a white, solid state of matter things just become exponentially worse. The most fun parts are when you are stuck behind two idiots doing 10mph side by side, so no one can get around them. Seriously folks, it wasn't even that bad yet - things were just starting to stick. I managed to finally find my way around most of them, and proceeded at a faster but still prudent pace to my wonderful home.

- The snow is quite nice, our one good storm of the past few years. Fortunately I'm scheduled off today so unless some crisis happens I will get to play with the kids in it some & watch the dogs frolic. The wife - not so much on the snow, but she can enjoy the pretty views!

Not to sound like a "doomer chick", but I would start planning ahead for food shortages.

Although, I will say that you (and Husband) are in a good line of work for the coming "very great depression". :)

Thinking ahead people that we are--our pantry is actually very well stocked. Sean's lazy wife just didn't feel like making bread! :D Too busy keeping children from bouncing off the walls waiting for it to change from rain to snow!

I'll have you know that it was 50 degrees today during my skiing session. I KNOW that I should have been at work...but I was inspired by your environmental calamity.

Aye, I've been slowly building up our pantry, mostly on sales. Last time we ran out of white rice, we picked up a bag, and then I asked my husband to put another bag in the cart. Why? Because nothing's going to happen to it while it's sealed, and I have the feeling we'll have hit inflation by the time we're done with our current bag. Never hurts to have some more white rice about the house.

I wonder what would happen if somebody with a lot of viewers put up a poll asking who's stockpiling food, how many of them are conservatives, and how many are liberals.

I thought this was very very interesting gothelittlerose.

What do you think the breakdown would be? I'm a staunch middle-of-the-roader ;) who basically hates both parties for playing the partisan game and not caring one way or the other what they do as long as it benefits them. And I'm a total prepper!

So I'm curious what others think.

I think it would be an interesting poll as well - for example, as my wife mentioned we aren't "preppers" per se - certainly not as much as I think we would both like. But we do make an effort to keep certain things well stocked that we use often. Along with continued goals of actually growing some of our own food & getting a larger freezer to do more long-term bulk storage.

Regarding the political issue - I hate the partisanship as well (although I do favor one side more than the other, I'm tired of the finger pointing & "our way is the only way game). But as for stockpiling, I have observed & heard numerous comments from both sides about a larger proportion of liberals stockpiling & gun shopping than it used to be...

Interesting times indeed.
