A few of the blogs I read are having bits go around and around regarding terrorism, militant Islam, etc. Unfortunately some of those debates are getting rather heated & a few people IMHO have gotten blinded in a panic-mode response.
I just will say this - things like "The only solution is for Islam to be exterminated" sounds exactly like something that a few people got together around 70 years ago and had a shot at with another group...
Genocide is not the answer folks. It's hateful and stupid and closed-minded. From either side.
Find another way to solve cultural issues than by just eliminating one of those cultures.

"This report is maybe 12-years-old. Parliament buried it, and it stayed buried till River dug it up. This is what they feared she knew. And they were right to fear because there's a whole universe of folk who are gonna know it, too. They're gonna see it. Somebody has to speak for these people. You all got on this boat for different reasons, but you all come to the same place. So now I'm asking more of you than I have before. Maybe all. Sure as I know anything I know this, they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, 10, they'll swing back to the belief that they can make people . . . better. And I do not hold to that. So no more running. I aim to misbehave." ~ Captain Malcom Reynolds

And thanks for saying it.
I want to be as safe as the next person. I don't want to do it by becoming a monster.
You need to re-read that post you referenced (if it is the one I think it is; you left no reference.) It is bad form to quote a source and not let the rest of us have our own opinions about it.
Obviously there were too many for him to reference...and there were no quotes made, just an observation.

This looks like a quote to me:
I just will say this - things like "The only solution is for Islam to be exterminated" sounds exactly like something that a few people got together around 70 years ago...
Obvious to you, perhaps. Do you, Dori, know which posts he is referencing?
Didn't think so.
The blog I'm talking about is here: http://www.papadeltabravo.com/blog/?p=1090.
Be sure to read the comments.
It's also bad form to validate an erroneous point of view by linking to it...
No, I am not referring to any one post on any one board - rather an attitude that seems to be becoming more common out there. That Islam as a whole is responsible and culpable for the activities of militant Islamists - akin to saying that all Mormons are responsible for the activities of a few child molesters in Missouri.
My point being both the fact I don't care for extreme levels of intolerance on either side of the equation, and that as many others have said (including Marko and Roberta) we need to be mindful of the whole Constitution and Bill of Rights when we push for things, not just the parts which fit our agenda.
Agreed... direct quote in one blog post or not, I've heard the same sentiment expressed in a few different wordings that can be summed up in the exact same sentence.
And I'm with Sean on this one, too.
Whenever I argue against anonymous strawmen, I win every time too.
It's Sean's blog, and he's making a comment on a basic feel he's seeing out there. Now - I'm going to go out on a limb and say from a zero sum simplicity game, the folks that say glassing the whole area would be simpler are right.
It would also be more monstrous then anything perpatrated on the US to date. Sometimes, you have to bring a hammer to an argument. A really, really big hammer. But you also need to know when its time to put the hammer down, and most importantly, when not to pick it up.
The Genocide hammer should *always* stay in the drawer.
I couldn't agree more. If we, as Americans, decided to kill all people within an entire race or religious group then we are just as bad as those who seek to kill all Americans.
There is a difference between defending ourselves and actively seeking to kill off an entire group of people.
