Just got home from a call-out - cold, rainy night; got asked to take the dog out & look for a gun in a patch of briars that was sufficiently thick to keep a rat from even wandering through, much less a dog... and if the dog can't get there, he certainly can't search. Needless to say it wasn't particularly successful.
While the overtime is nice, as my wife said when I wandered in dripping wet and dirty, "Do the road guys even think of this stuff before they call you, or just figure the dog can do anything?"

Well, duh. He's a police dog, certainly he can smell gunpowder and lead from a hundred yards away and take you right to the evidence.
Pouring rain? Briar patch Briar Rabbit wouldn't touch? Details are for wimps ;)
Are K9 dogs still as effective in the rain? I would have thought that the rain might interfere with getting the scent.

Goddess - yes, rain and such can affect them. The dog still has to be able to get to the scent, and weather and such can affect how it spreads. Plus, dogs have good and bad days like anyone else.
