“May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.”

"This report is maybe 12-years-old. Parliament buried it, and it stayed buried till River dug it up. This is what they feared she knew. And they were right to fear because there's a whole universe of folk who are gonna know it, too. They're gonna see it. Somebody has to speak for these people. You all got on this boat for different reasons, but you all come to the same place. So now I'm asking more of you than I have before. Maybe all. Sure as I know anything I know this, they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, 10, they'll swing back to the belief that they can make people . . . better. And I do not hold to that. So no more running. I aim to misbehave." ~ Captain Malcom Reynolds

Where it came from...

Figured a quick note was in order, as to the name of my blog.

I came to Firefly/Serenity late in the game, having been hinted that way by some friends and various net posts I read sometime in 2006. But I was instantly hooked. Not only was this good sci-fi (for which my weakness goes back 30+years), it was great simple storytelling. Good and evil, the grey lines that sometimes blur each, and all that stuff. Plus, hell, it's a Traveller game come to life! There are plenty of other new and old sci-fi shows I like, on the rare occasions I do watch TV, but this one has won a place in my heart.

Thus the choice of the quote. I certainly won't claim Mal to be the perfect representation of my character in any sense - each of them has their own aspect. But the quote sums up a Libertarian, free-loving, western feel that reminds me of all I truly believe. I don't know if Josh Whedon intended for all his future fans to embrace it as such, but I certainly have.

So, while it isn't always my first color choice, I am a Browncoat in spirit, and I dream of a ship and crew so fine. Some of you will get this, others won't but it's worth the saying.
