I present to you the following example of a recent call:
"Complainant advised she found a suspicious metal object in the middle of the roadway. She picked it up to prevent a car from hitting it, thinks it looks strange and that it may be an explosive object inside. Complainant has taken the object to her house but is afraid to put it in the trash because she doesn't want the trash can to explode. Requests someone to come look at it."
This is why I'll always have job security.

Er... WHA... She took it INSIDE??? God watches out for fools and idiots, and she qualifies on BOTH counts!
And job security IS a good thing...
How many times did she handle it? Change it's location and generally risk her life and well-being???
I am assuming that it was not a loud go-bang thingy or she wouldn't have been around to make the phone call!

The interesting thing in this story is that initially they drove the chemicals about 2.5hrs north to the main police HQ and stuck them in the evidence lockup there.
Eventually (apparently due to the smell) someone decided to take a second look at them and that's when they realised they were explosives.
