Another full week here with administrative stuff, school work & the like. Then, yesterday got extended by several hours due to me getting a call for a large amount of Civil War ordnance recovered from a house. We get a decent amount here, due to the numerous battles in the region - and it always surprises me that most of the people have no idea it's still hazardous. For example - of the items I dealt with yesterday 90% of them were still filled with live explosives & had fuzes - meaning all it would have taken is some heat, a spark, or even a bit too much static electricity on the wrong day to set things off...
In other news, got a "jury duty pre-screening form" in the mail this week, as my name has been drawn in the pool. Given that block #2 on my form is "Occupation and employer" I predict I'll be hitting the "disqualified" list about .02 seconds after they open it.

I think you may be mistaken about the disqual. I didn't get disqual'd until the end of voir dire when the attorneys were making their eliminations.
What Zercool said.ots of variables. Depends on whether you get a criminal or civil trial, the type of case, how deep you are in the panel, etc. Best bet to off is to be vocal with strong opinions during voir dire. It's the quiet ones who get stuck on the jury.
Actually I wouldn't mind getting selected - I've never gotten to serve jury duty & I think it would be educational. But I also know the unwritten policy here is that they will eliminate me quickly so as to avoid any concerns. Still, we shall see.

I got my jury duty postponed when I asked if they could give me breastfeeding breaks every two hours.
When you're clearing out Civil War ordnance, is it usually stuff that the homeowner knew was there and finally got around to disposing of, or is it a new discovery? How badly do they panic to discover they've been living with bombs in the basement?
Melissa it's a mix - about half of it is "grandpa had this on the mantlepiece for years" stuff, and the other half is "we found this in the yard". Most of them don't realize it's still hazardous stuff obviously.
